LDC Conference 2025: Health Minister To Update On Dental Negotiations

From a release issued ahead of this year‘s LDC Conference, GDPUK understands that Minister of State at the Department of Health & Social Care, Stephen Kinnock, is to provide an ‘update‘ on dental negotiations.

Although not attending in person - the two day event is being held at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead -  Mr Kinnock will join this year’s Local Dental Committees’ (LDCs) Conference on Thursday 5th June ’online’.

Over 200 delegates are due to attend the two-day event and debate 36 motions on topical issues in dentistry.

Resilience in Dental Practice’ is the theme for the 2025 LDC Conference, chaired by Charlie Daniels.  Speakers are drawn from within dentistry and from outside, lending a valuable ‘non-dental ‘perspective.

Following the Chair’s welcome, Shiv Pabary, recently appointed Chair, BDA General Dental Practice Committee, will provide a GDPC update.   He is to be followed by Jason Wong MBE, Chief Dental Officer who will consider ’Mental Resilience Within Dentistry’.

James Foster, Deputy Dental Director / Head of Dental Services (Asia and Australasia), Dental Protection will examine the conference theme from a medico-legal perspective and his talk will be followed by a look at ’Resilience in Practice’ given by  John Lewis, Trustee at ConfiDental.

Performance and Sport Psychology Lifestyle Coach, Graeme Foreman, will provide insights into managing high performance stress and anxiety.  This session will be followed by questions and answers from the delegates.

Great Britain’s most decorated Olympic rower, Sir Steve Redgrave, is the guest for Thursday night’s black tie event. He will share his experience of how resilience fitted into his world.

About LDCs

LDCs are the democratic representatives of primary care dentistry, established in statute since the inception of the NHS. Each LDC comprises an elected group of up to 20 dentists, serving as local leaders with the purpose of supporting and representing their fellow dentists.

Although each LDC is unique, they all strive for the collective good, operating within the framework of a constitution funded by statutory and voluntary levies paid by dental practitioners. LDCs engage with General Dental Practitioners in NHS, mixed practice, connect with private practice, secondary care, community representatives, and other stakeholders.

What do Local Dental Committees do?

LDCs provide support to all dentists on a wide range of local and national issues. They possess a deep understanding of the local healthcare landscape and have a unique insight into their specific region. LDCs maintain close and regular communication with NHSE commissioners, advocating for local dentists on developments, initiatives, educational, contractual, and professional matters.
