What Associates Want Part Two: It Depends Where They’re From

A wide survey of 657 colleagues paints a picture of what the UK’s Associate Dentists are seeking when applying for a position as previously reported on GDPUK.

Worryingly for NHS contract managers and practice owners lumbered with hefty targets that were negotiated in more benign times, only 12% of today’s UK Associate position applicants want to work full time. And whilst  24% would work full or part time, 52% are seeking a ‘part time’ post.

They want higher pay too. 62% of Associates are looking for a ‘private only’ contract or above £12.50 per UDA and a majority – 51% - are looking for a 50% split on private fees.

EU Dentists Expectations

EU dentists, it seems, are more malleable with regard to pay and hours.  58% of them are willing to work full or part time with 27% specifically looking for full time posts.

A third of EU dentists would accept 40% for their private work, whilst a majority, 52%, seek 45%.  Only 15% of EU dentists who took part in the survey are seeking 50% or above.

A whopping 59% expect  ‘£10 per UDA’ whilst a third (32%) expressed a desire to work either exclusively privately or to be remunerated at £12 or above per UDA.

Foreign (Non-EU) Dentists Expectations

25% of foreign dentists seeking a position are looking for a full time one whilst 44% are open to full or part-time opportunities. Only 28% are seeking to work part time. 88% of them would accept 45% or lower for their private work and 59% of foreign dentists are willing to work for £10 a UDA.  ‘That’s 55% more than UK Dentists’ the survey point out.

The majority – 57% - of foreign dentists surveyed are from India. 5% were from Egypt with a group of other countries each accounting for 1%.
