CQC Inspections To Restart

The Care Quality Commission will resume routine inspections from April.
The Health Service Journal reported that the CQC will return to inspecting and rating NHS trusts and independent healthcare services which are rated ‘inadequate’ or ‘requires improvement.’ Services which have been highlighted as new risks, will also be inspected.
The inspections will resume as Covid pressures continue to ease.
HSJ reports that the CQC will be paying particular attention to providers’ infection prevention processes.
CQC Board papers said the watchdog would prioritise inspections of “high-risk” independent healthcare services, such as ambulances, cosmetic surgery or where closed cultures may exist.
During the winter, the CQC only undertook inspections where intelligence indicated increased pressure had caused clear risks to the quality and safety of patient care.
Dental practices have not been specifically named as a priority in the first stage of the CQC’s resumption of inspections.
The CQC ceased routine inspections of healthcare facilities in March 2020.
It’s is not clear when the CQC will resume routine inspections of dental facilities.
