MP Fleur Anderson (@PutneyFleur) has secured a debate in the House of Commons on the impact of COVID on dental services. She is the Labour MP for Putney and in a recent tweet invited comments from her constituents and local dental practices. Also the Minister has replied to a question about dental services in Yorkshire.

Fleur Anderson was elected MP for Putney in the 2019 General Election. On December 21 she tweeted: “I have successfully applied for a Parliament debate on the impact of COVID on dental services on January 7^th. I will be raising issues from local dental practices and constituents affected. Please email me you experience and what you would like Ministers to do.” GDPUK now learns the debate is delayed by the recess to 14th January.

She is supported by Barry Gardiner Labour MP for Brent North.

It is likely that health minister, Jo Churchill MP, will respond to the debate.

Parliamentary question

Barry Sheerman Labour MP for Huddersfield asked what plans the Department had to increase the number of NHS dental appointments available in West Yorkshire.

Junior health minister, Jo Churchill MP, replied that NHS dental practices were open for face to face care. The Department is working to increase levels of service, as fast as is safely possible, taking into account PHE guidance and continued infection risks.

She continued: “Dental practices are prioritising patients with urgent care needs, irrespective of whether they have been treated previously at the practice. If patients require urgent dental care and cannot get an appointment, they are advised to call NHS 111 who will assist in booking an appointment at one of over 100 designated urgent care centres, which continue to stay open across Yorkshire.”
