Dental duo wins funding for mercy trip to Morocco

Two members of a dental practice have won funding to join a dental charity in its on-going bid to end the daily dental pain for the children of Morocco. Clinical manager Michelle Reid and hygienist Nicole Coomber, of Heath Dental in Solihull, scooped the sponsorship by cosmetic teeth-straightening experts, Cfast, at the Dental Maverick charity’s fund-raising Pirate and Treasure Ball.

The pair will fly out in September to Morocco where the Dental Mavericks treat up to 400 children per day in a bid to get them out of daily dental pain. Dental Maverick’s Cally Gedge said: ‘Cfast has been amazing as they have supported us from day one and help in any way they can. Cfast has helped us get toothbrushes for our tooth-brushing clubs, sponsored our ball for three years and sponsored nurses for our projects. We have lots of synergy with their team.

She added: ‘Dental nursing support is a key part of the work we do and, because of the language barriers, eye contact, breathing and relaxation techniques are an important focus for them, while the dentists offer pain-free extraction. Sustainability is key with everything we do and all we take on and Cfast has helped support our nine project a year by continuing their support on our campaigns and events.’

Gary Dickenson, CEO at Cfast, said: ‘The first time I attended my first meeting and heard of the work the Dental Mavericks did in Morocco, I felt, as a dental company, we had to do something to help out. Cfast really enjoys working with the Mavericks and the annual ball is the highlight of my year, with a great group of people and some amazing speakers. Cally and Tony Gedge treat everyone like family and make them feel so welcome.’

Now, due to two last-minute cancellations, the charity has put out an urgent appeal for dentists to join Michelle and Nicole and others involved in September’s projects. Cally explained: ‘We usually take five dentists per project and, unfortunately, due to family circumstances, two dentists have had to pull out for our September projects. We are urgently looking to replace these lovely people as soon as possible. ‘If you’re interested, please do get in touch to be part of this amazing team of dental professionals who give up their time to give back and help end the daily dental pain for the children of Morocco.’
