The date for the Judicial Review hearing called by the British Dental Association [BDA] against the decision made by the General Dental Council [GDC] has been set for Monday December 15th. This was announced in an email to BDA members.
The GDC wished for this to be delayed but the BDA are seeking a decision before the new rate for the annual retention fee [ARF] becomes due, which is the end of the year.
The GDC commenced a consultation in the summer of 2014 but then announced the likely new rate before the consultation was complete. The consultation produced and unheard of 4000 responses. The new rates were ratified at a short public meeting of the GDC on October 30th.
One GDC dentist member resigned in the days prior to this meeting, the input of dental members into this decision seemed to be minor.
Much of the outrage in the dental profession is based on how the GDC is regulating dentistry, the sudden large rise in the ARF has made this major unease become a vocal movement of protest.
