More patients seen under NHS

The NHS Information centre has published its statistics for April-June 2013, with patient numbers up until September this year. They show that 1.7 million more patients were seen in the previous two years than before the new contract started in 2006. Courses of treatment increased by 2.7% compared with the same quarter in the previous year.
A total of 29.8 million patients were seen in the 24 month period ending September 2013, an increase of 1.7million on the March 2006 baseline. This represents 56.1% of the population compared with the March 2006 baseline of 55.8%.
The number of children seen by an NHS dentist is 0.7% above the March 2006 baseline of 7.8 million although the percentage of children seen (69.3%) is below the baseline (70.7%)
There were an estimated 9.9 million Courses of Treatment (COTs) in the first quarter an increase of 257 thousand (2.7%) on the previous year. CoTs increased for each treatment band, except ‘Other’ which saw a decrease of 173 thousand (77.8%) when compared with the previous year. This decrease reflects the phasing out of UDA credits for prescription only.
