Practice sign leads to complaints

A dental practice in Watford is facing a legal battle with the council after it put up a large advertising sign without permission. Many residents have complained to Watford Borough Council about the sign, which was put up the front of Adrian Mullish Dental Care in Hempstead Road.

The practice, which looks after both NHS and private patients, has been open on the site for more than 40 years but recently changed the signage after a refurbishment. Under the council’s guidelines businesses must obtain permission before putting up signs larger than 0.3 square metres.

According to David Noble, development management section head at the borough council, they are aware of the sign and "it is the subject of a current enforcement investigation". However the practice has defended its decision to keep the sign in place stating that it is an essential advertising tool in difficult times.
