Shortlist for new dental pilot practices announced
The Department of Health has shortlisted an extra 29 new practices to join the existing 70 practices on the pilot scheme from April. The second stage of this programme has been expanded to help test how the different elements of the new contract work together. The pilots focus on more preventive care and new ways to make both adults and children take a bit more care with their toothbrush.

COPDEND announces training places for 2013
The Committee of Postgraduate Dental Deans & Directors (COPDEND) has announced that 85% of applicants have been offered places on dental foundation training schemes in 2013. Of the 1172 applications, including 109 from Europe and 17 from other dental schools worldwide,  1138 applicants attended for assessment. There are 953 currently available places all of which have been filled. This means there are 161 young dentists who may qualify but will be on the reserve list and may not receive a further year of training.

CQC reprimands South London dentist

CQC reprimands South London dentist
A dentist who had kept expired medicine on his shelves has been reprimanded by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). It criticised Merton Park Dental Practice, in Cannon Hill Lane, Morden, for stocking emergency medicine which had passed its use-by date and not providing full evidence of safety checks. The medicine has been replaced and the CQC said the practice was now compliant with health and safety standards.
