Kevin Lewis to step down from Dental Protection

Kevin Lewis is to step down as Dental Protection’s Dental Director by summer 2016, having served in the role since 1998, it has been officially announced. He said: “It has been a huge privilege not only to work in this fascinating field over so many years, but also to work with such phenomenally good people.” Arrangements for the appointment of Kevin Lewis’s successor will be announced ‘in due course’.

BDA and FGDP(UK) slam GDC’s ARF decision

BDA slams GDC`s to ARF decision

The British Dental Association (BDA) has slammed the GDC’s decision to keep the ARF at an historic high of £890. It was joined by FGDP(UK) which also expressed disappointment. The GDC said they had a ‘long-term ambition of reducing the ARF as improvements and efficiencies to dental regulation are realised’.

Henry Schein to take majority stake in Italian distributor Dental Trey

Henry Schein has announced that it has agreed to acquire a 90% stake in Italian distributor Dental Trey for an undisclosed amount. The deal leaves the remaining 10% share in the hands of members of Dental Trey’s founding family. The dental consumables and equipment distributor posted sales of roughly $49 million (€41 million) for the 12 months ended June 30, Schein said.

GDC decides to retain high retention fee

GDC decides to retain high retention fee

At a special meeting held on November 23 to consider the Annual Retention Fee (ARF) for 2016, the General Dental Council (GDC) decided to retain their ARF for dentists at £890. This followed a consultation which recommended that the ARF for 2016 remained the same as in 2015: £890 for dentists and £116 for dental care professionals.

Queen opens Brirmingham Dental School

Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, unveiled a commemorative plaque at an official ceremony ofthe new Birmingham Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry at Pebble Mill, Edgbaston. Following the ceremony, staff are working to prepare the building for its operational opening for public early in 2016.
