The British Dental Association (BDA) has welcomed news the Government will extend the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine to men who have sex with men (MSM) aged 16-40 via genitourinary medicine clinics, but stressed that a real breakthrough will require the vaccine to be extended to all boys.

The GMC should have ‘immediately ceased’ their fitness-to-practise cases and ’urgently reformed’ processes after concerns were first raised about the high numbers of doctors taking their own life while under investigation, a new review has concluded.
Ian Brack has been appointed as Interim Chief Executive and Registrar of the General Dental Council (GDC). He will join the organisation on 11 January 2016. Ian was most recently Interim Chief Executive at the Office for Legal Complaints. He also led the Olympic Lottery Distributor where he oversaw substantial grant expenditure, including the multi-million pound grant for the Paralympics.
A new study, from Duke University researchers, reveals that people with diabetes lose twice as many teeth as those without the condition. It shows that while tooth loss has dropped overall in the US over the past 40 years, people with diabetes remain much more vulnerable. Black Americans with diabetes are especially likely to lose teeth. American Dental Association spokesperson Dr. Edmond Hewlett said the study sheds light on two issues that ‘are important and timely public health concerns’.

The Government's candidate to be the next chair of the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Peter Wyman, has appeared in front of the Commons Health Committee for a pre-appointment scrutiny hearing. They were pleased to endorse his appointment and wish him well as he takes up his post. Their only reservation was his lack of experience in clinical settings, which they felt could be addressed.
