Mydentist closes Tewkesbury practice

The mydentist site in Tewkesbury High Street, in Gloucestershire which has 7,000 patients, will shut on March 31. The company has blamed getting less NHS work and having fewer patients for their decision. Patients ‘registered’ at the practice, where ten full-time jobs could be lost, will be offered treatment at mydentist practices in Cheltenham or Gloucester.

Steve Williams, mydentist's clinical director, told a local paper: "The decision to close the practice has not been taken lightly. Over the last three years the volume of NHS care the practice has provided has reduced alongside the number of patients attending the surgery, which means it is no longer sustainable to continue to keep the Tewkesbury practice open. We're supporting our staff at this difficult time."

The site was being used as a snooker club before being turned into an NHS dental practice in December 2007. Mydentist acquired it in June 2011. The corporate has more than 650 practices, and says it treats more than eight million people in the UK.
