£5000 fine for illegal tooth whitening

The General Dental Council (GDC) has successfully prosecuted a man for illegal tooth whitening, for practising dentistry when unregistered and unqualified. Mr Nathan Holliday was fined £5000 and ordered to pay a £120 victim surcharge at Sheffield Magistrates Court on July 24. Delivering the verdict the magistrates remarked that they found the case to be “a particularly serious one given the presence of significant aggravating features.”

Mr Holliday did not attend court but was found guilty in his absence of two offences of unlawfully practising dentistry, namely tooth whitening. The offences took place at ‘Neat Teeth’, Ecclesall Road Sheffield, on 19 December 2013 and 31 March 2014.

He was fined £5000 and ordered to pay a £120 victim surcharge. He was also ordered to pay £2,073.86 towards the GDC’s costs.
