Cycling’s golden couple seek perfect alignment

Cyclings golden couple seek perfect alignment

Elite track cyclists Laura Trott and Jason Kenny are about to compete at the Commonwealth Games.  They have been a couple since the 2012 Olympics, and train together at the Velodrome in Manchester.  Before the start of the games they have both embarked on Invisalign orthodontic treatment and are about to be fitted with their first sets of clear aligners to realign their teeth virtually invisibly.

They chose Invisalign to improve the look of their teeth because it is a discreet and non-invasive system which will allow them to continue to train and compete without impediment. They also wanted a treatment which would not be visible as they are filmed and photographed (often in close up) at every sporting event, and are also scrutinized on social media sites.

Laura commented “I had fixed metal braces as a kid, but didn’t wear my retainer”  As a result her teeth moved back to their original position.  “You can see my teeth in all the photos taken of me, especially the close ups where I am biting my medals!  So I am having Invisalign treatment because I am in the public eye and wanted to be able to smile with more confidence”.

However, she added that “I wanted something I could wear which did not affect my mouth when training and competing.  Metal braces can rub the inside of the mouth and can be very uncomfortable.  I remember when I was wearing them I had to find gels to put on the sore patches”.

Jason added “I am having treatment to straighten my teeth to improve my confidence.  In pictures taken over the last eight years I had become very aware that my teeth were getting worse and I want to be able to smile on the podium at the next Olympics.”
