Queen honours CDO and GDC president |

Barry Cockcroft, Chief Dental Officer, Department of Health and Hew Mathewson former president of the General Dental Council are appointed CBE in the New Year Honours list published on December 31. Also honoured with an MBE is Janet Clarke former Chair of the Central Committee for Community and Public Health Dentistry, of the BDA and member of the Steele Review.

Other MBEs are given to Mrs Donna Hough, Dental Workforce Development Lead for DCPs, North Western and Mersey Postgraduate Deaneries, Mrs Laura Mitchell, Consultant Orthodontist and Clinical Lead, St Luke's Hospital Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Angus Robertson Principal Fellow in Clinical Illustration, Leeds Dental Institute.
Outside dentistry Andrew Dillon, Chief Executive NICE and cancer czar, Professor Michael Richards are knighted and NHS chief executive, David Nicholson becomes a KCB. A CBE also goes to Professor Stephen Field chairman of the Royal College of General Practitioners who has been in the news over swine ‘flu.
This year, 45% of honours recipients were female, continuing an attempt to remove the male bias of these awards.> |
