Department releases ‘key facts’ about access |
| At the CDO’s recent press briefing, Dr Mike Warburton handed round some ‘key facts’ about access and about how the Dental Access Programme is working. He also revealed that the budget for NHS dentistry was increased by 11% in 2008/09 and a further 8.5% in 2009/10. It now stands at £2.25 billion plus £550-£600 million from patients charges. |

The Dental Access Programme was set up in March 2009 to support the NHS to deliver the Government’s access commitment that by March 2011 anyone who wants to will be able to access NHS dentistry.
The Dental Access Programme’s work covers
- Increasing access through opening new surgeries
- Better management of existing contracts to ensure patients receive the best service
- Better information to patients about available NHS appointments
- Developing a measure of access that is based on patient’s experience
The programme is also working with PCTs and dentists to ensure clarity about national guidance on the frequency of patient re-attendance. ‘This will enable more people to have access to NHS dental services,’ he said. |
